Library of Congress

The Thomas Jefferson Building (Library of Congress) is situated just across from the capitol building. I actually never knew it was there. From the outside, it looks pretty much like most of the buildings around. This past weekend, we ended up on the other side of the Capitol and saw that it was the Library of Congress, and that it was open! The inside is definitely not like any other building we've been to. The architecture of the building is quite amazing as you can see. We actually got a peek of the central reading room, and let me just say that if I could study in there everyday, I would definitely be more motivated.

Eastern Market

Eastern Market is a farmer's and crafts market in Capitol Hill. The market is open every weekend, and it's definitely an interesting place to go for fresh produce and handmade goods!

Puerto Rico

Last year during New Years, my boyfriend and I took an amazing trip down to Puerto Rico. We left DC while it was snowing, and spent 10 days in perfect weather lying on the beach. We walked miles down some pretty amazing white sand beaches with water so clear, you could see the fish swimming. I realized when I got back that I actually didn't take as many photos as I wanted to. We spent most of the time exploring and spending the entire day outside, so most days it seemed immensely cumbersome to carry DSLRs around (we also didn't want to accidentally drop them in the ocean). To make things easier, we actually bought a little waterproof camera before we went, but by the end of the trip it was no longer waterproof, so there goes 300 photos and videos. All in all the trip was pretty fun packed. We went to El Yunque, the rainforest, and snorkeling in the reefs. It was definitely a trip to remember...mainly because we also got engaged:)

Cherry Blossoms

DC weather has not been kind to these trees this year. First, it was still wool coat weather in April, then it hits 90 for two days. I am pretty sure these flowers are blooming and wilting in the same week. Also, I feel like the location is more conducive for people watching instead of flower watching. All I see is a sea of people. Nonetheless, I can understand how they are such a hit, especially when you get rained on by the little white petals. There was also a patch of tulips at Tidal Basin. I tried to make these flowers interesting, but tulips are just so boring in pictures. I tried to find ones that are wilting so they would have more character, but they were annoyingly perfect.

I am hoping my postings will become more regular once I finish my comprehensive exam. I am seriously counting down the days until I am forever done with classes. Taking these photos did help me de-stress a bit. The Puerto Rico photos WILL get posted soon...as soon as I find them.
